Eléctrico amarelo - Armindo Moreira Lopes (AML)
Fabricante: Armindo Moreira Lopes(AML).
Electric City Trolley by Armindo Moreira Lopes
Traditional tin toy produced by Armindo Moreira Lopes (AML).
Armindo Moreira Lopes was a manufacturer of tin toys (tinplate), which in 1940 and only at the age of 18 created his own workshop in Valongo. It has handmade about 365 different models, one for each day of the year.
A tin toy, or tin lithograph toy, is a mechanical toy made out of tinplate and colorfully painted. Tinplate was used in the manufacture of toys beginning in the mid-19th century. The toys were made from thin sheets of steel plated with tin, hence the name tinplate. They were a cheap and durable substitute for wooden toys. The toys were originally assembled and painted by hand.
Due to the Second World War, there was a shortage of tin plate, which led to a search in sheet and scrap lithographs, old cans already used, to recycle and reuse these for use in the manufacture of toys. It`s perfectly visible the use of sardine can tine plate in this toy.
